The state of New York has corralled three regional health information organization with health IT vendor in the effort to bid ramp up its statewide health information in participate in the health information network of New York. As a result of increasing number of New York based private practices, clinics and nursing homes are using electronic health records, where most have connected their systems to the regional health information organization in their part of the state. Regional health information organizations gather health information from health care providers in the area and with a signed consent of patients, the information is shared securely with other providers in the region (Public Health Informatics and Information Systems, 2014). Statewide health information networks works life a public utility that connect regional health information organizationcreates a private network crossing the entire state. Recent moves made by New York e-Health Collaborative along with the New York State Department of Health. Three regional health information organizations including e-Heath Network of Long Island, the Brooklyn Health information exchange and the Taconic Health Information are working with IBM, HealthUnity and intersystem.
Technology tools being applied to support the statewide information network is HealthUnity gateway, which is a set of standards-based mechanism that aloe healthcare providers to query patient documents across networks and allow networks connect to one another.
